How Two Policemen, Nine Lost Their Lives In Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo Road Crashes


Two riot policemen and nine other persons have lost their lives in multiple crashes in Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti and Edo states.


The Ondo crash claimed the lives of the two policemen, while eight others were injured in a crash that occurred on the Oba Ile-Airport Road, Akure, on Tuesday


It was gathered the victims were in a Nissan pickup van with number plate NPF 9557C and were heading for the airport when the accident happened.


An eyewitness said the crash occurred as a result of excessive speed at a sharp bend on the road, and consequently, the driver lost of the vehicle and crashed it.


The Ondo Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the crash, which it said occurred as a result of speed limit violation, tyre burst and loss of control of the vehicle.


According to the Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr Ahmed Hassan, two of the 12 persons involved in the crash died, eight were injured, while two escaped unhurt.


In Ogun State, an Iveco truck crushed four persons to death after it rammed into a commercial bus and a motorcycle at the Phonex bus stop on the Sagamu-Ogijo Road.


The crash, which occurred on Monday around 6.35pm, was reportedly caused by loss of control on the part of the truck driver.


The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.


Akinbiyi explained that the crash involved six male adults and four female adults, adding that five persons were injured, while four died.


Also, a commuter was, on Tuesday, killed in a crash involving a Toyota Camry car and a waste evacuation truck on the Ado Ekiti-Federal Polytechnic Road in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.


Eyewitnesses said two other occupants in the car sustained varying degrees of injury.


An eyewitness said the two vehicles were travelling out of Ado Ekiti when the truck suddenly hit the car from behind, explaining.


The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the accident, said the victim’s corpse had been deposited in the morgue.
