Kwara Governor's Father, First Lawyer From The North, Dies At 93



AbdulGaniyu Folorunsho Abdul-Razaq, father of Abdulrahman Abdul-Razaq, Kwara state governor, has passed away at 93 in Abuja.

The deceased, who was a senior advocate of Nigeria, was the first lawyer from the northern region  who served Nigeria as a special member of the assembly from 1960-1962, following the country’s independence.


He was also the Nigerian ambassador to the Republic of Ivory Coast between 1962-1964, and later member of federal parliament from 1964-1966 as Federal Minister for Transport.

He was the first finance commissioner, health, and social welfare for the state from 1967-1972.

The Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has commiserated with the entire Nigerians, Kwarans and the people of Ilorin Emirate over the death of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s father, Alhaji A.G.F. Abdulrazaq.

Similarly, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu, in his own personal message, described the late legal icon .

He added that  Baba was also reputed for establishing the first private secondary school in Ilorin.
