SPORTS: Bayern Beats Frankfurt To Maintain Lead


In an interesting turn of event, over the weekend  as the German Bundesliga action went down. 

League table leaders Bayern Munich beat visiting Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2, at the Allianz Arena to maintain  a four point lead at the top of the table  ahead of fiercest rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Goals from Leon Goretzka, Muller,Lewandowski, Alphonso Davies and an own- goal by Martin Hinteregger was enough to put the visitors to sword,  a moral boosting victory ahead of what could be the title decider against second placed and fellow title contenders Dortmund in the coming  fixture as a win there would extend the gap to eight points. 

In the thrilling encounter despite  being played behind closed-doors,Eintracht Frankfurt caused Bayern a scare after scoring two goals  in quick succession from set piece.

The visitors however had a record of troubling the league  leaders having beaten Bayern  5-1 in the reverse fixture in November, leading  to the sack of Niko Kovac as Bayern coach. 

After being  unable  to utilize chances that came in earlier in the  match, Bayern were able to break the deadlock in the 17th minute  following  a nicely worked ftee kick as Muller assisted Goretzka's goal with a nice cut back.

The home team would wait until the 41st minute to get the second thanks to a seemingly controversial goal by Alphonso Davies which was decided after consulting VAR. Before forward Robert Lewandowski increased the tally by scoring his 42nd goal of the campaign powering home an header from a Kingsley Coman cross to make it three before the visitors managed to pull two goals back in the space of four  minutes putting Bayern under pressure before Bayern increased the goal tally as such putting the encounter beyond reach for the visitor thanks to an own goal.
