SPORT: Athletico Bibao Aduriz Calls Quit On Football At 39

Athletico Bibao striker and Spain's oldest player to score in an international game, Aritz Aduriz  has announced his retirement from club football aged 39.

Aduriz who made 443 LA Liga appearances for Valencia, Real Mallorca and Bilbao, scoring 158 goals,  has made the decision after he had an hip injury which would need to be replaced,he posted on his Twitter handle.

"Yesterday the doctors told me to see the surgeon sooner rather than later to get a prosthetic to replace my hip, and try to go about my everyday life,  as normally as possible  but unfortunately my body has said enough. I can no longer help my team mates the way I would  like to nor the way they deserve . That is the life of professional athlete. Simple, very simple "

Aduriz  made his Spanish debut in 2010 aged 29 before waiting six years down the line to be invited again for a friendly against  Italy, a game  he scored his first national team goal and Spain's equalizer in a 1-1 draw.

He will go on to make 13 appearances including  scoring  his second  for the national  team  later that year to become Spain's oldest  goal scorer  in an internationals when  he was on the score sheet against  Macedonia  at 35 years and 275 days.
