COVID-19: Panic In Ondo Over The Refusal Of A Policeman To Go On Self-isolation After Showing Symptoms

Family of a senior female police officer serving at the Yaba Police Division, yesterday, raised the alarm over the refusal of the policeman to go on self-isolation after showing symptoms of the dreaded COVID-19.

According to a family source who pleaded anonymity, the affected officer had been taking herbs instead of alerting officials at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), Akure, Ondo State capital.

It would be recalled that three police officers were among the 13 persons who tested positive for the disease in the state.

It was gathered that the police officer, attached to Yaba Police Division, Ondo town, Ondo State, had been sick and allegedly showing symptoms of COVID-19, in the past few days.

The alleged refusal of the officer to go for COVID-19 test had raised panic among her family members and co-workers.

A relative of the policewoman, who disclosed this via social media in the state, said the cop had been taking herbs at home to treat herself rather than go to the hospital.

He said the outcry became imperative so that she would not infect other innocent people around her.

He also expressed fear that, if the woman tests positive, she might have infected her colleagues at work, as well as suspects in custody of the police division.

He said,

”I’m ready to give all information needed. She is my blood sister. The family members did not know. Neighborhood people don’t know ( about her health condition) and she is drinking herbs.

“Who knows what is happening to other officers too? She is not the only one in Yaba police station ,Yaba is a big police station in Ondo town.

However, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed that there was a police officer infected with the disease at Yaba Police Division but not a senior police officer.
