Police Demoted Over Attack On Medical Doctor During Lockdown


Report says, a police officer stationed in Akwa Ibom State command has been demoted for attacking a medical doctor during the enforcement of the stay-at-home order in the state .

It would be recalled that, the State government had exempted health workers from the lockdown order aimed to  to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

It  was gathered that, the police, Sergeant Edidiong Alexander assaulted Dr Daniel Edet who is a surgeon with the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital on his way to work on Friday evening.

It was reported that the police investigated  the incident after the Nigerian Medical Association threatened to embark on a strike over the assault incident which left Doctor's hand fractured.

The police officer who was found guilty after the investigation was however, demoted from the rank of a sergeant to corporal.

The state's commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, thereafter had a meeting with Mr Edet and the chairman of NMA in the state, and apologised
