Coronavirus: Nigeria Confirms Five New cases


The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed five new cases of coronavirus making it a total number of 8 cases in the country.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire disclosed the cases during a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

It was gathered that the five new cases had a travel history to the United Kingdom and the United States.

It was further revealed that, four of the cases were Nigerians including a six-week-old baby while the fifth was a foreigner who came in through the land border.

This remains the first recorded case of Coronavirus through Nigeria’s land borders.

It should be noted that, of the five cases, four cases are in Lagos, while one is in Ekiti State.

In another development, the Federal Government has placed ban on all entries into the country for travellers from 13 high risk countries.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha disclosed the countries to be; China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, Norway, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Switzerland.

SGF who further said the restrictions will take effect on the 21st of March for a period of four weeks, pleaded with travellers to isolate themselves for 2weeks to prevent further spread.
